I and R key points and OP day
I and R mattersRemember you PI and EoM, I do NOT want many ideas!!! I just need 2-3 well-developed ideas to score you for
- A&E (give rationale for choice, why ppl would help you, evaluate benefits, limitations and feasibility or project. Give a thorough and balanced analysis with evidence, case study etc...where possible)
- GI ( give ideas, link ideas to limitation or further benefits or link it to aim of your project, develop details of your project to show how things are to be done targetting your target group and to show insightful ideas. Go beyond the ideas of your WR to score EE)
Format1st para
Original idea
Evaluate benefits
Evaluate problem or limitation to the benefits
Show evidence where necessary
2nd para
New idea, improvement or extension linked to originla idea, it's problem or aim of project
Benefits of new ideas
Substantiate with evidence
3rd para
Evaluate new problems
4th para
New idea...etc...
Please use pharses like
- However we did not develop much on the detail
- One problem is that...to improve this...
- To furthr extend the benefits of this to...to enhance our project... to better achive the aim by....
- To complement this method to achieve better impact...we...
- To overcome the problem...we...
- The main drawback is that...
- WE can enhance the effectiveness by...
- One key weakness is that it fails to...
- This idea may not be feasible as....
- However should information is not readily available...
- To encourage...
- To increase the appeal...
- The method is effective as..... however...
Remember it is NOT suppose to be "cut and paste" from WR!!! REflect on ideas and give new ideas with improvements!!!
Main problems with class so far to be improved- Cut and paste from WR with no new ideas
- Did not pharse it like a I & R showing reflection
- Evaluation of ideas superficial. Be more balance and thorough. Show evidence for claims
- No development of new ideas with necessary details to show insights
- Show another person your I&R and see if they can make sense of it
Continue to do well- Give rationlae for decision and choice made. But some can be improved by showing clear link to original problem or aim of project
Details for I&R format
- Font size 11 Ariel
- Double spacing
- Justified
- Include your name, PDG and word count
- Try to keep to two page.
- Do NOT print double side
- Can include diagram, table, pic if they help to explain your I&R
Details for day of OP
Bring
- Entry Proof
- PW OP CD rom
- Cover page form question paper for gpp
- Purple file
- Final copy of I&R and approved gpp (ideas need not be same as WR)
- Necessary stationary (like puncher...etc...refer to handout given)
- Working resource file is to be kept by you for non-official docu (like minutes, drafts...)
Remember to go earlier to check laptop and projector
Ensure you have backup of slides and laptop
Assesor will bring one laptop but may not have the latest version of ppt, some fonts or some programme necessary for you. Pl check and ensure this on the laptop you are using
All groups in same AM or PM session share one laptop. All slides to be save on the desktop of the laptop at the very beginning of the session.
One of you will help your frens to time, pl be considerate when pressing the bell, do NOT scare your frens!!!
Just for 5mins, do NOT be yorself! Imagine you are the world best speaker and whole world will listen when you talk. Energy level must be high, enthu, be confident, be happy, be conviencing about your project.
Try your best to use the speech to showcase fluency, clarity and awareness of audience (remember this come with speed of speech as well, do NOT talk too fast!!! Cut speech and slides if necessary) Use slides, link, transition, intro and ending to show group effectiveness.

Looking ahead
Dear oh people from 21/08,
Some of you may rejoice while some will feel the pain after receiving your results. Remember: There's no point crying and blaming... It pays more if you truly reflect what didn't quite work well. Look ahead and work towards a formula that works for you!
It's now more important to give your best in your PW WR and OP!

PW from Ms Tan - Do NOT delete, not homework, just reminders
Dear all,
Some reminders abt PW
WR - remember to improve on organisation
- remember to showcase your mini poilet project, trial, survey or interview
- remember to do SI
- remember to think of insightful limitations
- remember to look for books in library abt your topics, especially useful for SI and for intro and conclusion
- include word count
- include bibliography
- include proper citation
- include annex with the emails you send out, summary of survey, information on poilet projects or anything that will show the research you have done
OP
- Prepare your speech, write a script even if you intend not to refer to it. This will help to organise your thoughts
- Include relevent pictures. Pictures included must be refered to
- Include survery results
- Have a maximum of two type of animation for the appearance of words
- Distinguish the headings and subheading from content using underline, bold, font size or font colour
- Have a standard format for the slides. All headings, subheadings and content should follow same format.
- Use animation or formatting to emphasize on key points
- Should have about 30-40 slides (too many cannot finish, too few lacks content)
- Reherse on your own and time your speech before the "official" rehearsal next week
- For Q&A, remember to stay calm, you should know enough about your project to answer everything. If not, think of something reasonable on spot. You will impress the assessors if you can answers with substaination from your survey, interview, articles, research, case study or examples from other countries. Read about everything that is related with your project even if you are not including the infor in you WR. May be necessary for OP.
I&R
- One draft only! Make sure it is good. No time to do 2nd draft anyway
- Can start handing it to me
- Remember the lessons learnt from PI and EOM. The marking criteria (A&E and GI)is the same.
- It's not the breath but the depth that we are marking for
- Refer to your old EoM, GPP and WR draft.
- What are the ideas you have changed?
- Why did you changed them?
- In what ways are the new ideas an improvement of the old one?
- How will the new ideas better help you achieve your aim for your project?
tis' the way
